North Pacific Coast Highway

Route 1 north of San Francisco was considerably damper than Route 1 south of the Monterey Penisula!
Beautiful evening skies as I drive north along Route 1 Route 1 moves inland then back to the sea up here. I set up my full-sized camp at Bodega Dunes not too far north of San Francisco on 29-January. The next day, I target my final destination, the Coastal Redwoods National Park, a bit of a long drive! It rained the next morning, so, for the first time on the trip, I had to pack a wet camp! This was a nice site for wildlife; I saw rabbits, deer and raccoon! Even in the rush to head north, I couldn't help taking more photos of this beautiful drive, even if misting! Left: Ubiquitous eucalyptus along the road. Right: Many flowers were in spring bloom this entire drive up California's west coast. Beautiful! The sea was still angry due to the winds from the west. Beautiful sights along the way... This picture fairly represents the worst of the weather this day. Guess again? This is another macro lens shot from about 2 cm away. It is some form of moss on the side of a tree. Very thick and dense! Entering the Humbolt Redwoods State Park as the sun breaks through the clouds! I was able to get several cool photos of the sun cutting through the fog! Apogee! My furthest destination from home! It's late, but I caught a herd of elk in my headlights and camera flash. There are also bear up here according to the signs! This is the grove where Lady Bird Johnson declared this a National Park. "Woodsman, spare this tree! Harm not a single bough!" This is the end of photos for January. I have spent the last two nights (30,31-January-2006) in the Best Western Bayshore Inn in Eureka, CA in order to update these web pages and to get some needed rest from the last four day push! Hey, got to do laundry sometime! Momma, I'm coming home!!!
