Driveway Preparation
October 16 & 18, 2006
Web Site Under Construction
Since the new driveway will come up almost to the top of the front door deck, I removed the
existing bricks for later use.
Scott and Chris (the same guys who did the garage floor) came out with the excavator
on October 16th. Sean stopped by to help as well. An curve was mathematically derived
(hahaha) and an orange line painted on the grass. The excavation began.
The digging is completed and the first forms are staked/nailed into place at the proper
height to ensure good drainage.
Special "syn-board" is used to form curves.
Scott works out the routing of the drain pipe from the crock to the gutter drain.
Sufficient fall was obtained in part by sawing the crock to move the drain pipe higher.
A waterproof connection is made from the house to the well pump.
With the crock pipe teed into the gutter drain pipe (done by shifting the gutter drain
pipe to the left, then back), the area is backfilled with gravel and dirt.
Three yards or so of stone are wheelbarrowed into position by Chris and Scott.
The old brick pathway to the front porch deck also gets stone.
The end of the driveway on the right was not completely formed out at this point. The
driveway is designed so the apron water flows into the crock, while the section of the
driveway shown on the right is tilted slightly towards the front lawn.
